Top seed Jelena Jankovic faces a challenging quarter-final contest against Anastasija Sevastova tonight in the WTA Monterrey Open

Following two straight set victories, Jelena Jankovic is now preparing for a tricky quarter-final here in Monterrey against Anastasija Sevastova. Sevastova beat Jankovic in the first round at this event last season, and the former world No. 1 will be keen to avenge the defeat.  

Fifth seed Sevastova remains in contention for this week’s competition, but could be in for a struggle tonight. The Latvian produced a fine comeback against Alize Cornet in round two to claim a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory against the former world No. 11.

Following last season’s 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory, Sevastova leads the head to head between the pairing 1-0. Even so, Jankovic will enter this match as the favourite. The winner of this match will face either Polona Hercog or Olga Govortsova in the final four.
