Jelena Jankovic and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will meet tonight in what promises to be a crowd-pleasing third round clash at the U.S Open

Eleventh seed Jelena Jankovic extended her stay in the U.S Open this week by grinding out a well-deserved 6-3, 6-4 victory over Jelena Dokic. The Serb only hit four more winners than Dokic, but was slightly more consistent throughout the match.

Jankovic will be pleased to have gotten through round two unscathed, but will surely be a little concerned about being broken four times by Dokic. She’ll be looking to get greater purchase off of her powerful serve in round three, where she’ll meet Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia.

Pavlyuchenkova was unexpectedly forced to dig deep to secure a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 success against Petra Martic in round two, and she’ll be doing what she can to produce a sharper performance against Jankovic. She beat Jankovic earlier in the season, and currently holds a 2-0 head to head record against her. It will be intriguing to see if Pavlyuchenkova can make it 3-0 tonight.
