Janko Tipsarevic has been in good form this season, and will be hoping to get his second week on grass off to a solid start when he meets James Ward in the first round of the AEGON International. Tipsarevic is capable of achieving a lengthy run this week, and at he should at least be eyeing up a second round berth. He’s looked particularly good on hard courts this year, his best achievement of the season being a runner-up finish at Delray Beach where he eventually lost to Juan Martin Del Potro.

Ward’s name was barely being mentioned prior to last week’s AEGON Championships, but the plucky Brit surprised all in attendance at the Queen’s Club by reaching the semi-finals. The underdog secured big victories against Stanislas Wawrinka and Sam Querrey on his way to the final four, and there’s a slight chance that he might be competitive here as well.

This will be the first meeting between Tipsarevic and Ward, and Tipsarevic will be eager to stamp his authority on the match as early as possible. Ward has demonstrated that his grass court abilities don’t necessarily fit with his ranking, and we could be in for a superb clash here if Ward can maintain his recent form.
