James Ward faces Ukraine’s Alexandr Dolgopolov in the Aegon International quarter-finals.

Ward has enjoyed two stunning and very unexpected wins over Feliciano Lopez and Rainer Schuettler, players who have both done very well at Wimbledon in the past. Ward has made the most of his wildcard entry for this tournament and his run has taken him to the cusp of the world’s top 300.

There is no reason why he cannot defeat seventh seed Dolgopolov who is far happier on clay and has been taken to three sets in both his matches so far. Ward’s fellow wildcard Jamie Baker came close to beating the Ukrainian in round one which will give Ward confidence.
