Before this tournament there were rumours that the 2010 US Open might be Blake's swansong. After a pretty disappointing summer it seemed likely that the 30 year old American might be calling it a day. However those rumours appear to be unfounded, Blake seems determined to battle on while his body still lets him, taking inspiration from Andre Agassi who continued to win majors well into his 30s.

Blake has never been past the quarters in a slam and he is desperate to put that right some day though the clock is ticking. He started strongly this week, overcoming Kristof Vliegen 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.

Polansky is ranked 205 but has been playing well above his ranking for the past month. He beat Jurgen Melzer in Toronto and qualified for Flushing Meadows before stunning Juan Monaco 6-2, 7-6, 6-3 in round one.

However Blake is a huge crowd favourite here and with all the support the odds are that he will pull through.
