Ace machine Ivo Karlovic takes on Fernando Verdasco in the fourth round of Wimbledon.
Karlovic has not had his serve broken in his first three matches at Wimbledon. Assuming that Karlovic keeps the aces and unreturnables coming what will it take for Verdasco to win?
First, he would have to hold his own serve in every game for at least 3 sets. Even if he managed to do that, which is unlikely enough, Verdasco would still have to fight it out in each set's tiebreaker.
Karlovic is currently set at odds of 50/89 (bet365) favorite to take Verdasco out, a man who himself has never been past the 4th round at Wimbledon.
A 6'10" giant that is playing at the top of his serving game, can look down at the court and hit the ball into the service area, smashing serves out wide or down the middle as much as he wants and no one on the tour is quick enough to stop him.
Verdasco might have all the hustle in the world, he might be in his prime, he might have great passing shots and great touch, but if he just can't physically get to the ball and put his racket on it then none of that will matter.
