Karlovic continues to struggle as the former top 15 player suffered an upset loss in the first round of ATP Newport.
Ivo Karlovic did not have the best grass court season as the Croat lost early in both Wimbledon and London's Queen's Club.
Changing continents certainly didn't help as Karlovic is out in the first round of ATP Newport as Denis Kudla, an 18 year old American who is only ranked 394th in the world, pulled off the upset in the first round 7-6, 4-6, 6-4.
Karlovic, who made the Wimbledon quarterfinals just two years ago, is now 32 years old and, as always, very reliant on his serve. He managed 24 aces in his match against Kudla but still lost and you have to wonder how much tour level tennis is left for the Croat, especially if he can't beat a player barely inside the top 400.
Perhaps the upset makes things a little easier for Grigor Dimitrov as the world number 60 will now face Kudla in the next round. Dimitrov himself is just 20 and the match promises to be an exciting affair between two young and improving players on the ATP Tour, both of which are anxious to prove themselves.
