No. 7 seed Iveta Benesova is up against Gisela Dulko in the first round of the WTA Monterrey Open

Iveta Benesova enters this week’s WTA Monterrey Open as the No. 7 seed, but faces a challenging first round matchup against Gisela Dulko. Benesova is currently the world No. 47, and has a 5-5 record this season. She’ll be aiming to improve on this, though she can’t expect an easy win here.

Dulko won last week’s WTA Acapulco Open, and now ranks just outside of the top fifty. If she can translate her clay court form into hard court form she’ll have a good chance on Tuesday. Despite her recent success, Dulko enters this match as the underdog, which makes sense given her head to head record against Benesova.

Bensesova has won 5 of the 6 meetings between the pairing, with victories spanning from 2003 to 2009. Dulko achieved her one victory over Benesova back in 2005, and will be attempting to snap a four-match losing streak here.
