Former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic has been beaten by Marion Bartoli in the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Open

Despite suffering from a stomach bug, Marion Bartoli has claimed a 6-4, 7-6 victory over Ana Ivanovic in the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Open. Following a jittery start to the match, Bartoli claimed three successive games to close out the first set. She then took the second set in a tie-breaker, delivering a straightforward smash to see off the threat of her opponent.

Speaking after the match, Bartoli stated, “I’m super-excited and so happy to be in the semi-finals at Indian Wells.” She has every right to be pleased with the victory, especially given the circumstances.

“I slept before my match because I was really feeling sick,” continued Bartoli. “I went on court and at the beginning, the weather was not that hot, so it kind of helped me…But then it started to feel really hot and then in the end of the first set I was definitely not feeling very good.”

Bartoli will now face either Shahar Peer or Yanina Wickmayer in the semi-finals.
