The groups for the ATP World Tour Finals have been decided
The groups for the ATP World Tour Finals have been finalised, and it looks like we’re in for a thrilling week in London. Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Tomas Berdych and Andy Roddick will be in Group A of the mens singles, whilst Roger Federer, Robin Soderling, Andy Murray and David Ferrer will be in Group B.
Group A should involve some great tennis. Nadal will be the hot favourite, regardless of his absence in Paris due to injury. Djokovic won this event in 2008, but will want to do better than he did last year, when he failed to make the semi’s. Berdych is making his first appearance here, and will be aiming to avenge his Wimbledon final loss to Nadal earlier in the year. Roddick is here for an eighth successive year, and will be looking to make an impact with his big serve and forehand.
In Group B, Federer stands out as a likely qualifier. The Swiss star has been in superb form of late, and could have gone on to win in Paris were it not for an incredibly determined performance from Gael Monfils. Soderling is the man who eventually won in Paris, and he should be brimming with confidence going into this competition. Murray should benefit from the backing of the home crowd here, and he’s also worth keeping an eye on. Ferrer made the final of this event back in 2007, and has enjoyed a rich vein of form in recent months.
The mens doubles groups have also been announced. The pairings of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, Lukas Dlouhy and Leander Paes, Marius Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski, and Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner will be in Group A. Group B will contain Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic, Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach, Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi, and Wesley Moodie and Dick Norman.
