Gaudio falls in the second stage of quaifying to Thiago Alves.

Qualifying is under way at the 2010 French Open and a former champion has already fallen.

Gaston Gaudio fell in the second round of the men's singles qualifying tournament on Wednesday to Thiago Alves, 6-2, 6-3.  With the loss Gaudio will miss the men's singles tournament and in fact he may never see the main draw of a Grand Slam again as his ranking is nearly out past 200 on tour now and he is 32 years old.

Gaudio, of Argentina, has one of the oddest Grand Slam charts that tennis fans will come across.  He has played in the main draws of 32 Grand Slam events and has barely been a factor in any of them having only made the 4th round on 4 occasions (all of them at the French).  However in 2004 Gaudio ran the tables in Roland Garros and defeated Guillermo Coria in the final to capture the clay court Slam.

Past champions still alive for the 2010 French Open title are Rafael Nadal (-250 Paddy Power), Roger Federer (+400 Bodog), and Juan Carlos Ferrero (+15000 Boylesports).
