Monfils leads the head to head series between himself and Mayer at 2-0.
Gael Monfils and Florian Mayer will meet in the quarterfinals of ATP Halle on Friday in a first ever meeting between the two on the grass court surface.
They have met twice before on clay and Monfils took down both matches however both contests were close as they both went three sets.
Entering their quarterfinal contest Monfils is the higher ranked player at 8th in the world however Mayer, now Germany's number one and ranked 18th overall, has been doing well for the most part in 2011.
Monfils enters the match 15-5 on the year and having missed some time with injury while Mayer is 29-14 on the year and playing the best tennis of his life lately.
Their quarterfinal match could be a tricky match for Monfils as the French player is just 16-11 in his career on grass. Mayer has enjoyed some success on the surface as he is 17-9 career-wise on the grass courts, a slight better winning percentage than what Monfil enjoys.
