Fabio Fognini is out of the picture as Novak Djokovic awaits the winner between Roger Federer and Gael Monfils.
Novak Djokovic, the champion of the last Grand Slam event from Melbourne, is awaiting his semifinal opponent at the 2011 French Open.
The world number two did not have to play a match in the quarterfinals as his opponent in that round decided to withdraw from the event. Djokovic had drawn the inexperienced Fabio Fognini in the round of eight at Roland Garros however Fognini, after a five set match against Albert Montanes in the fourth round, decided not to test his body further at the French Open this season.
Fognini, who would have been poor competition for Djokovic at less than 100%, has given Djokovic a free pass to the semifinals while citing a left thigh injury.
Djokovic now awaits the winner between Roger Federer and Gael Monfils, two players playing at Roland Garros on Tuesday. Their match is underway as Federer looks to erase the memory of his quarterfinal loss at the French Open last season to Robin Soderling.
