Francesca Schiavone plays Shahar Peer for a place in the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Open.
Peer actually leads 3-1 on the head-to-head but they have not played since 2009 and since then Schiavone has enjoyed the best years of her career.
The Italian thrilled everyone at the Australian Open on the way to the quarters but at the age of 31 it is hard for her to maintain that kind of consistency and she has since lost early in Dubai, Doha and Kuala Lumpur. However she has looked on form so far in Indian Wells, outplaying Alize Cornet 6-2, 6-3 in the third round.
Peer produced a stunning comeback to defeat the world's highest ranked teenager Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in round three. The Israeli is the tenth seed this week but many had her as second favourite against the in-form Russian and those predictions looked set to be proved correct as Pavlyuchenkova served for the match in the final set. However Peer dug deep and saved three match points as she reeled off the final four games to win 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Prediction: Schiavone in two
