Florian Mayer aims to continue his recent good form against last year's runner-up Michael Berrer in Saturday's semi-finals at the PBZ Zagreb Indoors.
Mayer has enjoyed a strong start to the year, making the last four in Auckland a few weeks ago and the German continued his fine form by stunning top seed Marin Cilic 6-3, 6-4 in Friday's quarter-finals. Cilic was going for his third straight Zagreb title but he was simply outplayed.
"I knew I had a good chance and that he does not like my game," Mayer said. "I was pretty nervous before the match, but my serve was really good and I'm really happy with the way I played. He never knows what shot am going to play so that makes it difficult for him."
Mayer has a great chance to make the final against world number 66 Berrer. The tall left-hander enjoys his best results indoors, making his first ever ATP final in Zagreb last year and he moved into the last four when Richard Gasquet retired, trailing 5-2 in their quarter-final clash.
Mayer is anticipating a tough match with Berrer likely to play much more attacking, high-risk tennis than Cilic. However expect form to prevail and Mayer to progress in three sets.
