Sixth seed Fernando Verdasco will meet Tommy Robredo in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters

Fernando Verdasco enters this year’s Monte Carlo Masters as the No. 6 seed, and will be hoping to make an impact over the space of the next two weeks. He received a bye in round one, but will now have to prepare for a tough second round clash against Tommy Robredo.

Robredo overcame the threat of Ivan Dodig in round one, eventually claiming a relatively straightforward 6-4, 6-2 victory.  He tends to excel on clay, and has enjoyed a very good start to the season. He’s reached the latter stages of several events this year, and won the ATP Santiago Open back in February.

Verdasco has a 4-5 head to head record against Robredo, and has lost all three of his previous clay court matches against his fellow countryman. That said, Verdasco is a more than capable clay court player, and many people are tipping him to finally record a clay court success against Robredo on Wednesday. This could be a close contest, and should prove to be one of the highlights of the second round.
