Fernando Verdasco is looking to secure his third title of the ATP World Tour season, and will win the Open de Nice Cote d’Azur if he manages to get past Frenchman Richard Gasquet today. Verdasco made it to the final by beating Leonardo Mayer 7-6, 7-5, his thirtieth victory of the year so far. Verdasco’s service game was particularly impressive yesterday, and he’ll hope that he can build on this for today and the fortnight in Roland Garros that awaits.

Verdasco will definitely need to be switched on today, as Gasquet has been going from strength to strength recently. Having won the challenger event in Bourdeaux last week, he seems to have really found his feet again. He reached the final here by narrowly defeating Potito Starace 7-6, 7-6. Gasquet has not won an ATP World Tour title since 2007, and will be keen to prove that he has at least a few more title victories ahead of him.

This looks set to be a very tight match, though Verdasco stands out as the favourite. Both players have shown on regular occasions that they can contend with the best in the world, so this could be an intense showdown.
