Fernando Verdasco goes for his second straight San Jose title against Canada's Milos Raonic.
Verdasco seems to save some of his best tennis for San Jose and he looks on course to claim the title again after an impressive 6-4, 6-4 win over Juan Martin Del Potro in Saturday's semi-finals. Del Potro got off to a bad start and never really found his way into the match with Verdasco successfully using heavy topspin to manoeuvre his colossal opponent out of position.
The top seed was delighted. “I’m playing great. I haven’t lost here in nine matches, so I must be unbelievably happy. After the Australian Open I had two weeks on my couch in Madrid, and last year I had a 10-day holiday before coming here. I think I will do this before the Grand Slams," he laughed.
He will need to return well again tonight against the 20 year old Raonic who has an absolute cannon of a first serve and no shortage of weapons to back it up. However while Raonic is a newcomer on the main tour, his game will pose few surprises for Verdasco who practised several times with him last month.
However will nerves come into play. Raonic was extremely impressive earlier in the week, during straight sets wins over the likes of Xavier Malisse but tonight he will be in his first ever ATP final.
Prediction: Verdasco in two
