Fernando Verdasco makes his grass-court season debut at the Boodles Challenge against Dustin Brown.

This is Verdasco’s first grass court match of the year. The Spaniard has been taking a well earned rest after a long and grueling clay court season in which he won Barcelona and reached finals in Monte Carlo and Nice. However it all came to a disappointing end as the world number nine was burnt out by Roland Garros and crashed out in the fourth round.

He’s never been past the last sixteen at Wimbledon and he should have a good shot at getting further into the second week this year.

Verdasco will be given a good workout by Jamaica’s Dustin Brown who is better on grass than his ranking of 105 would suggest. Brown has caused a mild stir recently by reports that he wants to switch to British nationality and style-wise he would be the quintessential British grass-court player with his out and out serve-volley tactics.

He’s been struggling to make a big impact on the ATP tour but won a round at Queens and qualified for the Unicef Open in Holland before losing at the first hurdle.
