Fernando Gonzalez plays Radek Stepanek in the second round of the Pilot Pen Tennis.

This is Gonzalez's first tournament since the French Open. Injury has seriously curtailed the Chilean star's season and he looks very unlikely to repeat last year's US Open feats where he made the quarters.

Not much can be expected of him this week and the same can be said of Stepanek who returned from injury at the start of this month. He failed to even win a set in Washington, Toronto and Cincinnati and lost in the final round of qualifying for New Haven, only getting into the main draw as a lucky loser. However he looked reasonably impressive during a 6-0, 6-4 first round drubbing of Pablo Cuevas so maybe the form is returning. 

Stepanek has had the edge over Gonzalez in the past, leading 3-1 on head-to-heads and winning both their previous matches on hard courts – 7-6, 6-4 in Miami last year.
However after the injury struggles of both men in 2010, the past history is likely to be irrelevant.
