Roger Federer once again managed to top the field in Basel, winning his second ATP title of the season in the process. The Swiss ace has been in good form all week, and he saved his best performance for the final, in which he defeated Kei Nishikori 6-1, 6-3.
“I definitely saved the best for last at the tournament,” remarked Federer after the match. “I played really well today in the final.” He seems to be excited about his prospects in the Paris Masters next week. “I’m feeling really fit and I’m ready for more,” he continued. “I’m very hungry and fired up.”
Nishikori felt that he could have done more to prevent such a heavy defeat. “I think I started a little bit nervous even though at the same time I was excited to play in the final here with Roger,” admitted the Japanese youngster.
“I’m a bit disappointed with how I played today, as it didn’t go well, but it’s always going to be tough against him… His tennis was too good for me. I felt like I couldn’t do anything.”
