Roger Federer sealed his place on yet another page of the record books as he became the first man to win six ATP World Tour Finals titles.
It's been a brilliant end to the season for Federer and he completed a hat-trick of indoor titles (he had already won Basel and the Paris Masters) with a 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-3 win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in Sunday's final.
At 30, Federer is the oldest player ever to win the title but the Swiss legend shows no signs of slowing down and will have his eyes firmly set on a 17th Grand Slam title next season.
Federer made a typically quick start and he was not troubled during the opening set as he outmanoeuvred the Frenchman with ease. Tsonga's frustration was building and he repeatedly threatened to smash his racket as the match appeared to slip away from him.
However with Federer serving for the title at 5-4 in the second set, Tsonga suddenly found an unexpected spurt of inspiration, creaming a couple of explosive returns to put himself back in the contest. He saved match point as the set went to a tiebreak, taking it 8-6 with some inspired touch shots at the net.
Federer was never going to go away and he steeled himself in the decider as Tsonga threw everything at him. The Swiss star picked up the pace in the eighth game as Tsonga was finally broken, going long with a forehand. Federer wasn't going to pass up another chance at serving out the match and moments later he sealed victory.
