Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic could meet in the semi-finals of this week’s BNP Paribas OpenRoger Federer will get the chance to snap his losing streak against Novak Djokovic should he and the Serb emerge from their quarter-final matches in Indian Wells with victories. Federer holds a 13-8 head to head record against his young rival, but will be eager to get back at Djokovic following two successive straight sets defeats.
Djokovic seems like a likely semi-finalist, following a blistering 6-0, 6-1 thrashing of Davis Cup teammate Viktor Troicki in round four. Djokovic may have attributed his win in part to a poor performance from Troicki, but that doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story. Djokovic appears to be on fire right now, and will be expected to get the better of No. 18 seed Richard Gasquet in the quarter-finals.
Federer had a more troublesome fourth round match, but managed to beat Ryan Harrison in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3. Should he defeat fellow countryman Stanislas Wawrinka in the last eight, he’ll be keen to stop Djokovic in his tracks. Federer will hand his No. 2 ranking position over to Djokovic should the Serb reach the final here.
