Roger Federer has withdrawn from Tokyo and Shanghai citing fatigue.
After leading Switzerland back into the World Group last weekend Federer said he was desperate for a holiday. “I have to go on holiday badly. I have a problem with my leg, I have a problem with my arm - everything is hurting,” he complained. “Plus I've got to do some baby-sitting. I've been spending a lot of time on the tennis court the last few weeks."
Now it appears that Federer’s need for a break has outweighed the ranking points he will lose over the coming weeks. Today the Swiss released a statement saying, “I'm disappointed that I have to withdraw from Tokyo and Shanghai as they are two of my favorite cities in the world and the fans have been great to me over the years. After consultation with my team and doctors, I decided to take the difficult decision to withdraw from both tournaments so that I can give my body a chance to rest, rehabilitate and fully recover from a physically challenging year.”
Federer is expected to return to the tennis court at the end of October for his hometown event in Basel.
