Fabio Fognini will meet Albert Ramos-Vinolas for a place in the quarter-finals of the Movistar Open

Fabio Fognini will be aiming to make a decent run in this year’s ATP Santiago Open, and needs to defeat Albert Ramos-Vinolas in round two to meet minimum expectations. Fognini is the No. 7 seed this week, and managed to secure his place in round two with a confident 7-6(6), 6-2 victory over Poland’s Lukasz Kubot.

Ramos-Vinolas progressed with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Leonardo Mayer of Argentina, and will be pleased with the straightforward nature of the victory. He might have his work cut out here though, as Fognini is one of the best players left in the draw, and is considered to have an outside chance of winning this event. Ramos-Vinolas has never ranked inside the top hundred, and Fognini should really be looking to seal his place in the quarters within two sets.

These two players have met once previously, though this match was not an ATP World Tour event. The contest took place on clay at the San Bendetto Challenger, and was won comfortably by Fognini (6-2, 6-2). Ramos-Vinolas will need to produce a greatly improved performance to stand a chance against the Italian this time around.
