Fognini is enjoying the best Grand Slam tournament of his career as the Italian prepares for a winnable fourth round match against Albert Montanes of Spain.
Fabio Fognini has found himself in unfamiliar territory at the 2011 French Open as the Italian, in an upset riddled section of the draw, is into the fourth round of a major for the first time in his career. Fognini entered Roland Garros as the world number 49 and unseeded however his ranking will go up with the updates in just over a week's time, especially if the Italian gets passed Albert Montanes this weekend.
Montanes and Fognini both eliminated seeded players on Friday and they now each have a career opportunity staring them in the face. Neither player has ever won a fourth round match in a Grand Slam tournament and in the case of Montanes, you have to wonder how many more shots he'll have as he will turn 31 later this season.
Playing in his 38th career Grand Slam at Roland Garros 2010, the Spaniard has only made it to the fourth round once in his entire career and that was from the 2010 US Open.
Fognini is still just 24 years old and he promises to make it this far again in another Grand Slam but the fourth round of the French is still the biggest match of his career to date.
