Roger Federer admitted he was exhausted after beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final of the ATP World Tour Finals but he's delighted with his end to 2011.
"I couldn't be more happy, I couldn't be more exhausted," Federer said after sealing his sixth ATP World Tour Finals title. "Jo sapped every last bit of energy out of me. There couldn't be a better way for me to finish the season. I really enjoyed every minute of being here."
Federer will be extremely satisfied and relieved to end 2011 on such a high note. It's been a testing season for the Swiss star with Novak Djokovic eclipsing almost everyone and after being forced to play second fiddle to the Serb, he ended the year without a Grand Slam title for the first time since 2002.
"Novak was the player of the year, which goes without saying," Federer reflected. "A guy who can win 40 matches in a row from the start of the season completely deserves it till the very end of it. I thought Andy Murray played a very good season this year. I think he's going to be very tough to beat next year. And Rafa with his class, he's always going to be a threat for the throne, to win all the big tournaments."
"For me, the most important thing is the reaction I show after [tough] losses. Because [the US Open] was a tough loss. It was one that hurt. It was one that makes you wonder, ‘How in the world can I end up losing this match?’ But to bounce back and not lose a match from that moment on I think shows, again, how tough I am, the right decisions I can take. These are the kinds of reactions I expect from myself. So to come through and prove it to myself was a great feeling."
