Dementieva battled into the quarter-finals with a gruelling second round win over Kateryna Bondarenko which lasted over three hours – 7-6, 6-7, 6-4. Dementieva was just two points from victory in the second set breaker but Bondarenko was not giving up easily and she led by a break in the final set before Dementieva hit back.
"It was a long, physical game, but I had to hang in and find a way to win. I just want to play as many matches as I can," Dementieva said.
Next up for her is the hard hitting Bartoli, Dementieva has won five of their previous seven matches and has also won the last three including a 6-4, 6-2 win in New Haven three years ago.
Bartoli is playing very well at the moment though, having made quarters in Cincinnati and Montreal and in round two she enjoyed a comprehensive 6-3, 6-1 win over qualifier Anastasia Rodionova so she will be much the fresher of the two players.
