Dominika Cibulkova and Lucie Safarova will meet on Sunday in the Fed Cup contest between the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic

Dominika Cibulkova will be hoping to level the scoreline for the Slovak Republic when she faces Lucie Safarova on Sunday in the Fed Cup. The Slovak Republic are currently 2-0 down against the Czech Republic, following two defeats on Sunday. They look set for an uphill struggle, and as things stand, a Cibulkova victory here might count for nothing. If Daniela Hantuchova fails to beat Petra Kvitova in the day’s first match, the tie will already be settled.

Cibulkova needs to turn things around after Saturday’s match. She was outplayed over two sets by Kvitova, who claimed a straightforward 6-2, 6-3 victory. On the upside, she didn’t spend too long on court, but then again, neither did Safarova. After winning a tough first set, Safarova raced away from Hantuchova in her opening match to clinch a 7-5, 6-1 win.

It should be noted that Cibulkova has gotten the better of Safarova each time she’s played her. Following wins in Doha in 2008, and Wimbledon last year, Cibulkova has a 2-0 head to head record against Safarova. She didn’t drop a set in either match. Should Hantuchova win against Kvitova, this could be a fascinating contest.
