Viktor Troicki looks to see off Dmitry Tursunov in the last eight of the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur.
Troicki snapped a four match losing streak to make the last eight in Kuala Lumpur, seeing off the powerful Uzbek Denis Istomin surprisingly comfortably 6-1, 6-4. Troicki is hoping to qualify for the ATP World Finals for the first time but he faces an uphill task, currently lying in 17th place in the Race.
"The first set I played pretty good, controlling that part of the match," Troicki said. "The second set was pretty equal. I was just a bit more focused at the end to make a break to win the match. I'm happy to be in the quarter-finals. I had lost to him in a strange match last year, so I knew I had to play more offensive and take my chances when they came."
Tursunov has turned his career around in stunning fashion this year. The Russian had plummeted out of the top 100 after a spate of serious injuries but he worked his way back up through the challengers and he's seeded seventh this week.
He saw off Belgian wildcard David Goffin fairly comfortably 6-3, 6-3 in round two earlier in the week. However Troicki has won all three off their past matches, including a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 win at the Australian Open.
