Novak Djokovic made a great start in London, beating Tomas Berdych in straight setsWorld No. 3 Novak Djokovic put in a solid display in London today to defeat his Czech opponent Tomas Berdych in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Djokovic has now given himself a decent chance of making the final four, and should be able to secure qualification to the semi’s with another victory. Amongst Djokovic’s fans here was Diego Maradona, the Argentine football legend.
Following the match, Djokovic thanked Maradona for coming, and joked that he was his new coach. “Just to have him as a support is incredible honour and pleasure”, stated Djokovic. “He cannot learn from me, I can learn from him. He is much older and much more experienced”.
“We spoke about eventually him coming to practice and playing a little bit of tennis and football tomorrow...Hopefully he’ll show me some skills”. Djokovic continued, saying, “Maybe even working on some specifics, like how to play with hands, high balls” [A joke recalling Maradona’s infamous ‘hand of God’ goal].
