USA take on Novak Djokovic’s Serbian side in Belgrade this weekend in the first round of the Davis Cup World Group.

Djokovic is the only member of the top five competing in the weekend’s Davis Cup ties.
Fresh off a title in Dubai he will be hoping to steer Serbia to a famous victory against an American side without Andy Roddick. He is backed up by Viktor Troicki who has formed a very handy doubles partnership in Davis Cup with Nenad Zimonjic, they won a rubber over five sets against Spain, away on clay this time last year. Janko Tipsarevic is also in excellent form having beaten Andy Murray in Dubai last week.

They go head-to-head against the USA, fielding the in-form Sam Querrey and John Isner as well as the Bryan brothers. Querrey won the Memphis title last month and Isner has already made two ATP finals this year but their chances could be scuppered by the Serbs crafty decision to hold the tie on clay.

Djokovic is a multiple Roland Garros semi-finalist on the dirt and Troicki is also very comfortable but Querrey struggled to win any matches on clay last year while Isner bypassed the European clay-court swing altogether. Both competed in Acapulco last week for some preparation on the dirt but both lost in round one.

The Bryan brothers who won the Australian Open earlier this year will surely secure the doubles for the USA but it looks like all the singles rubbers are heading Serbia’s way. Querrey and Isner will have to hope they can somehow both rise to the challenge against either Troicki or Tipsarevic in the second singles rubbers.
