The Davis Cup 2011 World Group play-off between South Africa and Croatia will get underway todayYou can watch and bet on the action from the Davis Cup at bet365South Africa and Croatia will be battling it out over the next three days for a place in next year’s Davis Cup World Group. The Croatian side is considered to be stronger, but they’ll have to beat the South Africans on home soil, which may prove to be tricky.
Day one will begin with Kevin Anderson taking on Ivan Dodig. Only two players separate Anderson and Dodig in the ATP world rankings, and it looks like this could be a key matchup. Anderson secured a comfortable straight sets win when the pairing last met (Shanghai, 2010), and this bodes well heading into today’s clash.
The second matchup will be Marin Cilic v Izak Van Der Merwe. Van Der Merwe will be fired up for this contest, but it’s hard to see any outcome other than a Cilic victory.
Anderson will pair up with Rik De Voest on day two for the doubles, where Croatia will be represented by Nikola Mektic and Antonio Veic. This will be followed by the reverse singles on day three.
Croatia’s superior strength in the singles should be decisive here in Potchefstroom. Unless South Africa can somehow rise to the occasion, or Anderson can single-handedly guide his team to glory, they’re going to be in for three fruitless days here.
