David Nalbandian is up against Tommy Robredo in the last eight of the Copa Claro in Bueno Aires.
Nalbandian won the Bueno Aires title in 2008 and the Argentine will be hoping to triumph again in front of his home fans this week at the venue known as the Cathedral of Argentinian tennis. He looked on top form in the second round, sweeping past qualifier Juan Pablo Brzezicki 6-1, 6-2 in just over an hour.
“I did almost everything perfectly, it was a great match,” Nalbandian said. “I didn’t have to run or defend too much. Some matches you can do more things depending on what your rival does, but the idea is to keep up this tennis.”
Robredo has already struck gold on the Latin American swing, triumphing in Santiago two weeks ago. The Spaniard has enjoyed a really bright start to the year but can he maintain this level of consistency ? He has yet to drop a set this week but has yet to face really testing opposition.
Nalbandian will be confident having won six of his previous eight matches against Robredo and the last time the Spaniard beat him was way back in 2006.
However Nalbandian is not counting his chickens. “I need to play like this again, I’m feeling very good," he enthused. "I know Robredo well, we’ve played a few times in the circuit and also before in juniors. I know I have to be aggressive and continue this level.”
