David Nalbandian is up against Florent Serra on Grandstand court at the US Open this afternoon.

Nalbandian would probably have won this tournament back in 2003 if he had converted match point against Andy Roddick in the semis. However it was not to be and the Argentine still has just a sole slam final to his name despite reaching the last four at every major.

Nalbandian was predicted to be a serious dark horse at this tournament after winning the Washington title on his return to the tour last month and then continuing that form in Toronto and Cincinnati. However he was among many who wilted in the heat during their opening round matches and was very fortunate to see off Rik De Voest 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4.

However he will be still strong favourite against Serra who had a very poor summer, losing in qualifying for the two Masters 1000 events and first round in New Haven. He thrashed Florian Mayer 7-5, 6-2, 6-0 in the opening round but does not have the weapons to pose a serious threat to Nalbandian.
