David Ferrer takes on Marcel Granollers in the Valencia Open 500 final.

Ferrer dealt his hopes of qualifying for the ATP World Finals, a huge boost when he stunned Robin Soderling 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the Valencia semi-finals. It means that if Ferrer wins the title today he will move back into seventh place in the Race, just 20 points adrift of Tomas Berdych and his place in London will be virtually secure.
Ferrer benefited from an uncharacteristically poor Soderling serving performance and he was able to engage the Swede in plenty of lengthy baseline rallies. He won the Valencia Open two years ago in its last year as a spring clay-court event.
Granollers has been a huge surprise package this week, having initially lost in the final qualifying round. Granted a lucky loser place, he's gone on to make his second ATP final, stunning Juan Monaco and Gilles Simon in the past couple of rounds. Granollers' attacking play brought his rewards against the overly passive Simon in the semi-finals but he will have to play one of the matches of his career to defeat Ferrer today.
"The final will be very tough, but I'm confident and I hope to carry on the strong run I have been on in the past few days," he said. "I'm taking advantage very well of the second opportunity the tournament has given me to play after losing in qualifying. That's tennis!"
Ferrer has won the only previous meeting between these two 7-5, 6-4 on the clay of Barcelona earlier this year.
