David Ferrer makes an early comeback from a wrist injury in Cincinnati against talented wildcard Grigor Dimitrov.
Ferrer looked set to miss the US Open after the news broke at the start of August that he had sustained a hairline wrist fracture after a fall in training. However barely a fortnight later and he's back in action and will take his place as the fifth seed in Cincinnati.
The super strong field this week will be to test how strong Ferrer's wrist is feeling and he could face Montreal semi-finalist Janko Tipsarevic in the next round if he gets past Dimitrov.
At the age of 20, the much heralded Bulgarian is at a career high ranking of 56 and made good use of his wildcard, beating qualifier Marcel Ilhan in straight sets on Monday. However unlike players like Bernard Tomic and Ryan Harrison, Dimitrov has yet to achieve anything on the tour to make everyone sit up and think. Beating Ferrer would be a start and he won't get a better chance than today.
If fully fit, Ferrer could be a contender to go seriously deep this week after a superb season which has seen him make the Aussie Open semi-finals, win two titles on the tour and perform Davis Cup heroics for his country.
