David Ferrer looks to end the hopes of home favourite Andy Roddick in the last sixteen of the US Open.
Roddick had barely played all summer coming into the tournament but he's done well to negotiate three rounds so far, dropping just one set in the process. He took out the dangerous Julien Benneteau on Sunday night, a great result given that the Frenchman made the final of Winston-Salem just over a week ago.
However Ferrer will be a different prospect. The fifth seed has looked extremely impressive so far and completely battered Florian Mayer 6-1, 6-2, 7-6 a couple of days ago. He's got a decent record in New York and is enjoying a fantastic season.
The Spaniard beat Roddick 7-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the decisive rubber of Spain's Davis Cup tie against the States in July and he leads 5-3 on the head-to-head so Roddick knows he's facing an uphil battle.
"Obviously, he's tough," Roddick said. "A lot of what I do feeds into what he does well also. I don't think there's a lot of secrets between us. He covers so much court. He's solid. He doesn't give anything away. He returns really well. You know, that's what you have to deal with and that's what you know he's going to do going in. Most of the time we played, whoever has executed better has won."
Prediction: Ferrer in four sets
