Daniela Hantuchova is in action against Hungary's Melinda Czink in Quebec tonight.
Hantuchova is the top seed this week but she had a tough opener against teenage Croat Ajla Tomljanovic, a match which lasted almost two hours before Hantuchova scraped through 6-0, 2-6, 6-4.
"She's a talented girl - I was expecting a tough match and was surprised how easy the first set went," Hantuchova said. "Then I lost my serve right away in the second, and she started to play more freely. But it's good to have a tough match at the beginning of a tournament… a little wake-up call. I'm here to do well, so I know I'll have to play very well."
Czink is an experienced leftie whose current ranking of 155 belies her ability. She reached a high of 37 two years ago and beat Hantuchova 7-5, 6-2 in their only previous match five years ago.
However her recent form has not been up to too much. She lost in US Open qualifying and needed three sets to get past Germany's Kathrin Woerle 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 earlier this week.
Prediction: Hantuchova in two.
