Top seed Daniela Hantuchova continues her Quebec title quest against Marina Erakovic later today.
Hantuchova's chances will depend largely on how she recovers from a foot injury she suffered during her second round clash with 2009 champion Melinda Czink on Thursday. The Slovak battled through bravely 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-3 in over two and a half hours but it is unclear whether the injury will affect her today.
"It has been painful for quite some time. I had the same thing in the other foot five years ago," Hantuchova said. "It started to be very painful at the start of the second set; it was so painful I almost started to cry. But I wasn't going to give up. I came here to win the tournament. I've only had three or four retirements in my entire career. There's no way I'm going to give somebody a match."
New Zealander Erakovic scored a notable win over one of the tour's most promising teenagers - US Open girls runner-up Caroline Garcia - 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in round one and yesterday she defeated seventh seed Irina Falconi 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
However if Hantuchova is fully fit, Erakovic will surely struggle against the big hitting top seed especially on a surface this quick. They met on the speedy lawns of Wimbledon in the summer with Hantuchova winning 6-3, 6-1.
