She’s been playing well this season, and currently holds a 32-21 match record for 2011. She won the title in Pattaya City in February, and has been in reasonably consistent form ever since.
Hantuchova will now face Gisela Dulko in the first round. Dulko has enjoyed her best form on clay this season, but she’s a capable hard court player, and shouldn’t be completely dismissed here. She’ll be the underdog though, and will need to be at her best to avoid a straight sets defeat.
Hantuchova has dominated all three of her previous hard court contests against the Argentine, and didn’t lose more than 3 games in any set. With this in mind, it seems more than likely that Hantuchova will be able to work her way into round two. Dulko will need to be on fire to cause an upset.
