The race to London is hotting up and Marin Cilic needs a big week to stay in contention.
Cilic currently stands in twelth position, not quite out of the running but he will probably need to at least make the final in Basel this week to have a chance as he’s 800 points adrift of eighth placed Fernando Verdasco.
Cilic is coming into the Swiss indoors after a good week in Vienna where he made the final, losing 6-4, 6-3 to home favourite Jurgen Melzer. However as top seed Cilic would have been hoping to go all the way with the extra points all the more vital at this stage in the year.
“I’m really happy that I made it this far in the race,” said Cilic. “"I have a lot of things to improve in my game, just about everything. These last two weeks will be very important for me. I have a slight chance to make it, you never know what’s going to happen in the last two or three weeks of the season. There are always some surprises and definitely I’m in good form and hopefully I can win some matches and from there we’ll see what happens.”
Marin Cilic is 16/1 to win the title in Basel this week with Boylesports. As ever Roger Federer is odds on favourite at 4/6.
