Caroline Wozniacki opened her efforts in Bastad with a straight sets victory over Alize Cornet. The Dane now looks best Sofia Arvidsson on Wednesday.
Caroline Wozniacki is the top seed at the WTA Bastad event this week and in the first round she defeated Alize Cornet 6-4, 6-4.
Wozniacki did not have that sharp of a match in terms of serving as she had just one ace while only winning 53% of the points played on her first serve. Cornet broke Wozniacki an astonishing number of times (seven) and if not for the fact that Cornet herself played absolutely horrible on her service games (she won 38% of her first serve points and tossed in 9 double faults) the world number one could have been sent off in the first round on Tuesday at Bastad.
However Wozniacki survived and will face veteran Sofia Arvidsson next.
The two players have met five times in the past with Arvidsson winning only one of those matches, one that took place very early in Wozniacki's career at Memphis 2006.
They have twice met on clay including once in Bastad with Wozniacki winning 24 games in those matches to Arvidsson's 8.
However with the way Wozniacki served in the first round Arvidsson has to be hoping for an upset win and she is available at
7/1 with bet365.
Wozniacki, priced at
1/16, has to be considered but the favorite perhaps the long odds on her opponent could be considered a value play.
The match is scheduled to be played on Wednesday at 15:30 CET.
