The world number one enters today's quarterfinal with a losing record against her opponent, Jelena Jankovic of Serbia.
Top ranked Caroline Wozniacki will be in action later today at WTA Rome (Internazionali BNL d'Italy) as she faces a former world number one in Jelena Jankovic.
The quarterfinal match from Rome marks the seventh meeting between the two players in their careers and Jankovic holds a 4-2 head to head edge over the Dane.
However Wozniacki has won their last two matches, both of which were played in 2011, and that includes a win on the clay court surface.
Not long ago in Charleston, Wozniacki defeated Jankovic en route to the title and the world number one is favored to win again today (
4/11 bet365).
Jankovic has few victories this season over the best players on tour and her play has declined in 2011 compared to past years. This season she has just two match-wins over players in the top 20 with those being Kaia Kanepi and Samantha Stosur.
Jankovic has seen better stretches of tennis and she will likely see better stretches again in the future as she's too talented to suffer a prolonged slump without re-energizing herself. However Friday looks like it will belong to Wozniacki as the world number one eyes the semifinals and the Rome title.
Wozniacki and Jankovic will meet on the Pietrangeli court with a start time not before 2pm CET.
