World number one Caroline Wozniacki is back on the tennis courts on Tuesday following a disappointing effort at Wimbledon 2011.
Caroline Wozniacki remains the world number one but following performances at Roland Garros and Wimbledon that saw her falter in the middle rounds, the Dane remains a player with much to prove.
Wozniacki is part of this week's WTA Bastad event as she opens her efforts tonight in the opening round against Alize Cornet of France.
Cornet has a career victory over Wozniacki from the 2007 US Open however the Dane has won their two other meetings. They have not met one another on tour since New Haven in 2008, a match Wozniacki won in straight sets.
Cornet enters the match ranked just 69th in the world and she has not really done much lately that suggests that she is going to do well against the current world number one. Cornet went out in the first round of Wimbledon to 126th ranked Kateryna Bondarenko and the French player has made a habit of losing to weak players lately.
Cornet lost to 68th ranked Alla Kudryavtseva in Birmingham, she lost to Anne Keothavong (113th ranked) in Eastbourne qualifying, and 112th ranked Nuria Vives Llagostera eliminated Cornet at the French Open.
You have to wonder what Wozniacki's mental state will be like right now and what her attitude toward the Bastad draw will be like as well.
