No. 1 seed Caroline Wozniacki is set for a challenging quarter-final showdown against Victoria Azarenka in this week’s WTA Indian Wells Open

Caroline Wozniacki has made steady progress here in Indian Wells, and never looked like losing a set prior to her fourth round match against Alisa Kleybanova, which she eventually won 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. The world number one entered this competition in top form and the early exit of Kim Clijsters has added to her chances of winning the title this week. She faces a tough quarter-final clash against Victoria Azarenka here, but she’ll remain the favourite if she can prevail.

Azarenka has also only lost one set this week, against ninth seed Agnieszka Radwanska in round four. Azarenka pulled through against her Polish opponent by clinching a third set tie-breaker, and it seems like a similar level of effort will be required here if she wants to stand a chance of putting an end to Wozniacki’s run.

Wozniacki has a 4-2 head to head record against Azarenka, and has won the last two meetings between the pairing. That said, both of these recent wins were narrow victories, and it looks like this match could provide a serious test of Wozniacki’s resolve.
