Caroline Wozniacki plays Vania King in round two of the Australian Open.
Wozniacki received a much needed confidence boost with her first round 6-3, 6-4 win over the dangerous Gisela Dulko. Consistency is the Dane's byword and the blustery conditions on Rod Laver Arena during the day session suited her far more than the flamboyant Dulko.
"Gisela is a tough opponent, especially in the first round. She changes the rhythm quite a bit. So it's tough to get there and play your own game," Wozniacki said. "It's the first round. It's always tough. I'm really happy to be through, and through to the next round. I'm feeling good. I'm feeling like I'm in a good shape. Happy to be through from the first round. I'm looking forward to play the next one."
King pushed her all the way in their only previous encounter, Wozniacki grinding out a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 win in Indian Wells last year. The world number 88 plays her tennis in a similar mould, another gritty baseline slugger.
However twelve months on Wozniacki is far more capable of stepping up the court and being the aggressor. Her forehand is now a serious weapon and the serve is gaining potency all the time.
Prediction: Wozniacki in straight sets again
