Caroline Wozniacki takes on Svetlana Kuznetsova in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships final.
Wozniacki is seeking to claim the first WTA Premier title of the year and she battled into the final with a 7-5, 6-3 semi-final win over Jelena Jankovic. Wozniacki is adept at grinding out results when not at her best and it's been the case all week with the 20 year old playing herself into form after a fairly slow start to the year.
Jankovic had won all four of their past matches and the Serb will be ruing missed opportunities after blowing a golden chance to win the first set. She led 5-3 with three set points and the outcome of the match may well have been very different if one of those had gone her way.
Kuznetsova sealed her fifth win over Flavia Pennetta with a 6-4, 6-4 semi-final victory. Kuznetsova has looked revitalised so far in 2010 and expect to see the two-time Grand Slam champion back in and around the top ten fairly soon.
Wozniacki and Kuznetsova have had many tight battles, none more so than in the 2009 US Open where the Dane took a desperately tight fourth round clash 2-6, 7-6, 7-6 on the way to the final. Wozniacki then triumphed 6-2, 6-3 in the Montreal semi-finals last summer before clinching another WTA Premier title. Overall she leads the head-to-head 3-2 and will be hoping for more of the same today.
