Caroline Wozniacki takes on marathon woman Francesca Schiavone in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.
Schiavone can claim to be probably the fittest 30 year old on tour at the moment after her record breaking exploits so far at the Australian Open. The French Open champion was involved in a second round epic against Rebecca Marino which went all the way to 9-7 in the final set and then just days later she outlasted Svetlana Kuznetsova in the longest women's singles match ever. Lasting nearly five hours, Schiavone battled through 6-4, 1-6, 16-14 but will she have anything left in the tank for top seed Wozniacki.
The Dane will regard this as a golden opportunity to reach her first semi-final at the Australian Open. Probably the best defensive player on tour, Wozniacki will use her speed and consistency to keep Schiavone out there all day.
The top seed has been far from her best so far in the tournament and she may still be adjusting to her new racket as her usually rock-solid baseline game has been strangely erratic. However she is still yet to drop a set and you cannot really argue with that.
The head-to-head is locked at 2-2 with Schiavone winning 6-2, 6-3 on the way to winning the French Open last year but Wozniacki got revenge in Montreal and at the WTA Championships.
Prediction: Wozniacki in straight sets.
