Wozniacki is the pre-tournament favourite having shrugged off the disappointment of her US Open semi-final defeat by winning both WTA Premier events in Tokyo and Beijing earlier this month. The Dane's ascension to the world number one ranking without yet winning a slam has attracted plenty of media attention and Wozniacki will be hoping to silence her critics with the biggest tournament win of her career this week.

Dementieva's best moment of the year came at the French Open in June when she was cruelly denied a full shot at reaching the final, having to retire midway through her semi-final with Francesca Schiavone. The Russian has been consistent since but has rarely shone. She enjoyed a good week in Tokyo at the start of October, making the final in a high class field.

Wozniacki and Dementieva have played out a couple of classic three setters so far this year and we should expect a high quality encounter. Wozniacki's renowned fighting spirit saw her through 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 in the New Haven semis and again 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the Tokyo final.
